Mission Work-DR Orphanage and More
In 2003, GC missionaries Rick and Carie Bernard went to the Domincan Republic with a vision to minister the love of Jesus to people in need. Since that time they have established the Canaan Ministry Center. The ministry facility, located in San Cristobal, provides daily meals for 80 poor street children. The facility also serves as a girl’s orphanage housing over 20 girls. They also hold periodic medical clinics to serve the health needs of their community.
In 2011, their daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Christian Humble and their family, joined Rick and Carie in the work. They were a welcome addition to this expanding work. Church Planting and Connection The Bernards have also connected with independent pastors of established churches and have brought them into the Grace Covenant (Pacto de Gracia) ministry family. They also work with these pastors to plant new churches in unchurched areas for more people to come to Christ and belong to a faith community.
Currently, Grace Covenant-DR has 13 churches as part of the network and more are being planted. Leadership Encouragement and Equipping Working with the pastors, they provide regular conferences for fellowship, encouragement, training and prayer ministry for the leadership of the churches. Mission Teams and Interns
Rick and Carie's ministry includes hosting a number of mission teams each year. They give the members of those teams the opportunity to get involved with serving the needs in poor neighborhoods and in churches. They also have an extensive internship program where young people will come and serve for an extended period of time and receive a life changing missions experience. Christian and Brittany oversee the internship program.
